New analysis reveals that thousands of children may have spent Christmas day in A&E
More than 13,000 children may have spent Christmas day in A&E, according to new analysis by Incisive Health.
The analysis, reported in The i on Christmas day, reveals that the number of under-16s visiting A&E on Christmas day has increased from 292,441 in December 2010 to 390,277 in December 2016 - an increase of nearly 6% a year.
Commenting on the findings, Kieran Lucia of Incisive Health said:
“Whilst much of the national debate around A&E pressures focuses on pensioners, one in five people in A&E on Christmas Day will be children. As the number of young people attending A&E continues to rise, hospitals will have their work cut out this Christmas.”
